Masai Mara National reserve is perched peacefully in the Great Rift Valley about 6-hour drive from Nairobi. It makes up a marginal 0.01% of Africa’s total land surface, but it boasts more than 40% of Africa’s large mammals including the Big 5.
It houses more than 95 species of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians and slightly more than 400 bird species. More than 1.5 million wildebeest, different species of antelopes, and over 200,000 zebras migrate cross-country between Kenya and Tanzania, crossing the crocodile infested Mara river. It is rated as the largest overland migration in the world.
